The book starts of with Sentaro having put up a sign for help wanted at the store less out of necessity and more to do with quelling the never-ending boredom of running the store alone. There, under the supervision of the store owner’s wife, Sentaro spends his time making dorayaki, a sweet snack filled with sweet bean paste goodness, in order to repay his debt to the store owner.
After the owner of a store cleared Sentaro’s debts for him, our main character continues to work in the store of Doraharu even after the store owner died. Sweet Bean Paste’s protagonist is a man named Sentaro. A Japanese-translated novel, Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa hits all the right places.
